Athletics

Participation on an interscholastic team provides many benefits to the developing adolescent.
Numerous studies have shown that participation in sports enhances self-esteem, improves academic achievement and contributes to high levels of physical fitness. Our programs seek to promote respect for others, integrity and fairness. Players, coaches and spectators at our athletic events are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship: only positive comments and attitudes regarding team members of our school and our opponents are expected during athletic contests. All students are encouraged to try a variety of sports and not 'specialize' or focus on a single activity year round. The Clark Lane Middle School interscholastic athletic program strives to involve as many students as possible to participate in the Fall, Winter & Spring athletic seasons.

Fall Sports Registration opens right at the start of the school year and first practice begins mid September. Cross Country is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and boys & girls soccer is open to all 7th and 8th graders.

Winter sport offerings at CLMS are swimming, wrestling, and girls & boys basketball. Winter registration opens the 3rd-4th week in October and first practices/tryouts begin mid November. Swimming and wrestling are open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and basketball is open to 7th and 8th graders.

Spring sport offerings at CLMS are volleyball and track & field. Both sports are offered to current 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.
Volleyball registration opens early in February and tryouts begin in early March. Cuts will likely be made due to traditionally high registration numbers.

Track & Field registration opens approximately the second week of March and practice begins mid April.
Based on previous registration numbers, there may be a cap placed on the total number of students allowed on the CLMS track team. This cap ensures that resources are appropriately allocated and that each participant receives adequate supervision and instruction. Priority will be given to 8th graders to ensure these students have ample opportunities to engage in sports activities before transitioning to high school.

Please be aware that not all students may be able to attend away meets. Registration numbers and available resources will determine the feasibility of taking the entire team to away competitions. Priority might be given to students who have demonstrated commitment, skill or seniority within the program. These measures are implemented to ensure a fair and effective sports program while considering practical limitations.

An email will be sent home to all CLMS families announcing when registration opens each season.
