Track Procedures

Clark Lane Middle School Track & Field

Coaches:  Mr. Slocum, Miss Sullivan & Mr. Wicklund

  • The purpose of this program is to introduce middle school students to the sport of track & field, to instill a concept of training to achieve a better performance, and to understand how the individual contributes to the team.

  • Attendance is expected at every scheduled practice (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays until late bus @3:45; Fridays until 3:45 with parent pick up - no late buses on Fridays!) Attendance in also expected at meets!  Unexcused absences will be grounds for dismissal from the team.  Inform the coaches if you need to miss!!

  • Athletes will be transported to every away meet and brought back to Clark Lane Middle School.  Meets are scheduled for 3:30, but in general may not start until 4pm.  Athletes riding the bus back to CLMS should be picked up promptly.  Home meets-parents pick up @WHS.

  • Sweat shirts and jerseys will be issued to the athletes and must be returned.  Athletes must provide their own shorts.

  • Should an athlete be injured during the meet or practice, the coach will administer first aid and use appropriate emergency procedures based on the nature of the injury.  Parents will be informed if any emergency procedure is necessary.

  • Proper nutrition is essential for health and performance.  Athletes should drink plenty of water during the day and eat a healthy lunch.  An after school snack is also recommended.

  • Conduct during practices and meets:  students should arrive to practice with appropriate clothing.  If a student does not have appropriate clothing for practice, he/she will not be allowed to participate, and may be sent home on their bus.  Students are expected to behave in a safe and respectful manner during all aspects of the track season.  This includes appropriate behavior in the locker rooms and on the bus.   Any inappropriate behavior will result in referral to the office and/or dismissal from the team.
  • Athletes will immediately report to the locker room following the dismissal bell.

  • After changing, athletes will go into the lobby outside the fieldhouse and wait for the rest of the team.

  • Following instruction, athletes will go to the field and begin practice.  On the day of an away meet they will go to the bus after attendance is taken.

  • Athletes will ask the coach to go to any location other than where they are assigned;  for example the locker room or water fountain.

  • Athletes will be expected to stay in the designated meeting area at the track meet until cleared to begin warm ups.

  • Parents are encouraged to attend all meets and cheer on their son or daughter.  Pick up times are estimates and parents may pick up at the meet or at Clark Lane Middle School from the bus.  Parents should check with the coaches if leaving from the meet.

  • Any meet cancellations due to weather will be made by 2:00 pm the day of the meet.  Athletes will then go home on their regular bus or stay for practice if so directed.

  • Athletes may bring a cell phone the day of the meet but it must be kept in their locker and off during the day. They are not allowed to be used in school and may be confiscated if found by administration or other teachers.

  • Athletes may bring lock to lock up valuables in the locker room but must take it with them after the practice or meet.  If taking the bus back to CLMS, athletes can leave valuables in a locked room (fitness room, or coaches’ office).

  • Parents may contact any coach via phone or e-mail for information and clarification.
