Thank you for expressing interest in joining the swim/dive team.  The information will hopefully answer any questions that you may have.  This is our 8th season with a middle school swim team.  Coach Andy Gathy will be returning to lead the program.

This is not a beginner’s swim lesson.  If you have a sincere desire to learn how to swim competitively please see Coach Gathy, and he will give you some local options. Team members are expected to be able to swim at least 25 meters of freestyle. The team will have diving practice this season. We will follow the same health protocols as the WHS swim team.

If you have any questions or concerns please address them with Coach Gathy to see if he can help you or answer your questions.

SCHEDULENovember 20-21

There will be a bus after school from CLMS to the front of WHS. Coach Gathy will meet you there and walk you down to the pool each day. CLMS students are not allowed to walk around the high school. Parents will need to provide transportation home. Practice times will be from about 3pm-5pm. We anticipate a little later start time due to the walk down to the pool, but it will be finished both days by 5pm.

SCHEDULE: November 27-Jan 31st (subject to change)

Once the high school swim season begins, the practice schedule will change. The CLMS team will practice on Monday & Wednesday afternoons, and Saturday mornings.

Mondays and Wednesdays: Arrive in a bathing suit 4:45pm. In the pool at 5pm. Practice will be done at 6pm.

Saturday Arrive in a bathing suit by 9:50am.  In the pool at 10am. Practice will be done by 11:30am. We will have diving and specialty drills on Saturday.
Parents are responsible for drop off and pick up at WHS for all swim practices.

**After practice on Saturday morning we would like some parents to organize a team breakfast in the pool lobby.  We are trying to promote healthy eating so please no donuts or unhealthy foods.**

The Dual Meet and Championship Information

There will be 2-3 dual meets against other local middle schools in the area.  We plan on swimming ELMS & HKMS during the season.  These dates and locations are still waiting to be finalized.  There is also a CT Middle School Championship for those swimmers who make the qualifying times - date to be determined.

Team Apparel

For practice, boys are encouraged to wear a suit called a jammer. Girls should wear a one-piece bathing suit.  People with long hair are required to wear a bathing cap.  Goggles and a towel should be packed from home.  A water bottle will be a must for each practice.  You have to stay HYDRATED!!

Team members will be required to buy a team swim cap, and will have the option of buying a team suit for our meets. Depending on the number of team members, a representative from Destination Athlete will visit us for an official sizing for our competition suits and team jackets.  We will also be offering team members and their families customized CLMS Swim Team t-shirts.
